We have a wonderful new video! It was filmed from December 2018-August 2019 by Monica Bautista, a local videographer. Thank you, Monica!
In the summer of 2020, we started using a slide to give out books during the COVID-19 pandemic. June 21st, 2020 was our second event with the new social-distancing slide! Thank you to Andrew Webb of WVIR NBC29, who came out to film the Donor Diapers distribution. Donor Diapers sets up at Friendship Court every month to give out diapers and wipes to families who need them.
We are a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity. If you would like one, we can issue a tax-deductible donation receipt!
Any amount helps. Thank you so much!
Yes, the books are free. The Free Book Bus was founded by Sharon B. Stone, who saw a need for books to be available in places that the library bookmobiles can’t always go, or in places where people can’t get to the library.
The Free Book Bus was founded to enable all families to have a home library for their children, regardless of income. The Free Book Bus is based in Charlottesville but travels to Albemarle, Nelson and other surrounding areas. We give free children's books to every child or teen who visits the bus. We have also added adult books at certain stops by popular request.
All are welcome! Some bus stops are for certain clients only, such as food pantry distributions. Others are open to the public. Check our upcoming stops page for more information to find out when you can visit The Free Book Bus.
Check back for an updated list of our stops as we schedule them!
